frequently asked questions

A: Impulse Donation is a research project that aims to create a system for nano-donations to individuals who need support in their social causes: The D(onate) Ecosystem

The project will bring a ground-breaking technology nano-donations, allowing everyone to make donations anytime, anywhere through a mobile and wearable applications.

A: The D Ecosystem is a trusted third party that makes use of the Impulse Donation technology to ensure trustable transactions between donors and individuals: donors are guaranteed that their donations are applied in the campaign objective; and individuals do not carry the responsibility of receiving funds, but rather the goods or services they need.

A: Nano-donation are under a dime donations, usually a penny.

They are the core of the D Ecosystem: insignificant daily contributions of each one, a huge contribution as a whole. Just a penny a day, every day: 30 cents a month, 3.65 dollars a year. Seems insignificant, right? In 2016 there were 208,610,000 smartphone users in US (source statista), that could represent a $761 426 500/year. Still insignificant?

A: Currently the project is in its first phase, where several technology and specifications are being tested in order to find the best suited setup.

An early version full function version of the D Ecosystem is expected in December 2018.

A: The Impulse Donation project will bring a ground-breaking technology for donations: nano-donations. Donors will be able to make donations several times a day, select different campaigns to donate and contribute to a broader diversity of social causes.

Participating in this study will allow you early access to the Impulse Donation Study app. It is a preliminary prototype of the Impulse Donation technology that will enable mobile donations, anytime, anywhere. For now, it is a just a standalone application that allow the research team to gather user data to analyse in order to answer to our research questions.

Your contribution is very important for the future development of the Impulse Donation technology. To participate follow the link.

A: You will receive an email for confirming your account. The email will also include further information about the following steps.

After activating your participation, we are eligible to receive an email with an activation code for downloading and using the Impulse Donation app.

A: If have successfully activated your participation, you will receive the activation code when the study became active. The date of the study activation depends on the availability of the Impulse Donation app in App Store.

A: The Impulse Donation app is available at Apple Store. The app is only available for Apple iPhone.

In the email with your activation code you should also receive a direct link to access the Impulse donation app in the Apple Store.

A: If you do not have already install the Impulse Donation app, follow the link provided in the email and install it on your iPhone. The app only works in the Apple iPhone (it is not available for iPad or Android devices). After installing the application use the activation code to activate your app. That’s it! You are ready to explore the campaigns and make donations.

Please note that the current version of the app is a dummy developed for the study. Individuals and campaigns are fictional. The donations do not represent a real contribution to the campaigns.

A: If you are experiencing problems activating your app, please check the spaces after the code entered and make sure you are connected to the internet.

For further help and information, please contact the project research team (info@impulsedonation.org).

A: Yes. The project research team (info@impulsedonation.org) will be glad to help you with any technical problem you have using the Impulse Donation app.

A: The Apple Watch app need to receive information from your iPhone. Your iPhone app must be initialized and activated in order to use the Apple Watch app. In some specific occasions the communication is delayed. Therefore, you should be patient and wait for the response of the Watch app.

If your problems using the Apple Watch persist, try reinstalling the Apple Watch app from the Watch app on your iPhone. This process will reset the Apple Watch app.

For further help and information, please contact the project research team (info@impulsedonation.org).

A: The data updates establish a session between your app and the Impulse Donation server to synchronise system information and upload your usage data.

A: Yes, you can cancel your participation. You just have to uninstall the application and send an email to the project research team (info@impulsedonation.org). We appreciate if you can fulfil a final questionnaire of your experience using the system that will be emailed to all participants after the end date of the field study.

The objective of the study is to get data about users’ behaviours using a mobile application for nano-donations. Therefore, the data that is being collected is related to the number of times the user opens the application, the number of interactions to donate and the donation amounts. Moreover, the time to donate and the reaction time to notifications is also being extracted from the collected data.

You have the right to access the data that has been collected. As the data is anonymous collected it is not possible to relate it to you.

However, after analysed by the research team, the collected dataset will be public available. Further details will be published in Impulse Donation web site.
